Put a wakesurfer and an eFoiler on the same lake on the same afternoon and the difference is not really about speed or skill. It is about geography. One of them can ride anywhere the water goes. The other is holding station in a pocket of wave a few feet wide, and the moment the boat stops, so do they.
Two riders, one lake, very different freedom
That contrast is the whole idea of this episode. The eFoil covers the lake while the wakesurfer works the wave behind the boat, and seeing them in the same frame makes the trade explicit. Wakesurfing gives you a shaped, repeatable wave and requires a boat, a driver, fuel and other people’s time. An eFoil gives you the entire body of water and requires nobody. Neither is better. They are just different arrangements of what a good afternoon on the water costs to organise.
What is on the water
The eFoil is a Lift Foils V2 on a five foot board. On the wakesurf side there are two boats out, a Supra Launch SSV and a Centurion Ri265, with a Hyperlite Broadcast under the surfer’s feet. Wetsuits vary with how much time is being spent in the water rather than on it, from a Body Glove spring suit up to an O’Neill Reactor II three-two full suit with a back zip. There is also a fox red Labrador riding in the bow, which is its own argument for boats.
Shot in 360, including from mid-air
Everything here was filmed on an Insta360 R, mostly on an extra long carbon fibre selfie stick, which is what makes the angles possible: underwater passes, bullet time effects that orbit the rider, and a slow motion jump off the side of a moving wake boat. There is no commentary, so watch it as a comparison rather than a lesson. A second half runs as its own episode.
