Most riders have a stance they never leave. That is comfortable, and it quietly caps how good you get. Switching your feet, riding with the wrong foot forward on purpose, is one of the least glamorous skills in board sports and one of the most useful.
Why riding backwards is worth the bruises
The argument here applies well beyond eFoiling. Surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, wakeskating, skateboarding, longboarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing: in every one of them, mastering the backwards stance is a basic skill rather than a party trick. A whole family of manoeuvres depends on it, and even when you never use those manoeuvres, learning to ride switch makes you a better rider in general because it forces both sides of your body to do the work rather than one.
Goofy, standard, and a knee that changed things
There is a twist behind this one that regular viewers of the channel may not expect. The natural stance here is goofy, right foot forward. After knee surgery, riding switched to standard, left foot forward. So the jump back to goofy in this episode is not an exercise in learning something new so much as returning to the stance the body originally preferred, on a board that punishes any weight in the wrong place.
Attempting the mid ride swap
The goal set before the season ends is a mid ride jump to goofy and back again, on foil, under power. The results are exactly as messy as that sounds. If you are working on the same thing, the useful takeaway is that the falls come with the territory and the skill is worth chasing anyway.
