Lift eFoil battery charging problems and how support responded

When an eFoil battery starts misbehaving, the first thing support will want is evidence. This episode is that evidence, filmed because Lift asked for it: a full charge cycle recorded from the moment nothing is plugged in, through every light and noise the pack makes, to whatever state it lands in the following morning.

Ruling out the obvious before blaming the battery

Before any conclusions get drawn, the setup gets checked. The serial number and some unexplained scratched markings on the side of the pack are shown on camera. The outlet is traced back to the breaker box with a socket finder to confirm the circuit is rated to match the charger, and the same charge has been attempted from several different outlets with no change in behaviour. The charger sits on a shielded metal sheet that lets air move around it so heat is not building up underneath. It is a deliberate effort to remove user error from the conversation before asking anyone to replace anything.

The charge sequence, step by step

The order matters and is worth knowing if you own one of these. Main power in first, then the data cord with its red dot facing up and clicked home, then the charger itself. The pack answers with a click, the lightning bolt symbol appears, and a yellow dot starts blinking. The cooling fan spins up briefly and then stops, which is the part that raises a question here: the charger gets hot to the touch, and the heat sink looks capable, but it is not obvious whether the thermostat is ever asking the fan to run again.

How long it actually took

This is the symptom. A charge that should have finished in a couple of hours was still only part way up the indicator bar hours in, still running at midnight, and had finished at some unrecorded point by morning, ending in two solid yellow dots on either side of the charging bar that had not appeared before. Real ride times on the same pack were coming in under an hour.

Early adopter, not early quitter

The framing around all of this is deliberately fair. Anyone riding an eFoil today is an early adopter of new technology, and hiccups come with that territory. If you love the sport, helping the manufacturers find and fix these faults is how the next generation gets better. The reason for staying with Lift, as put here, is the sense that they treat a sale as the start of a relationship rather than the end of one, and there is every intention of buying and riding the generations that follow.
