Anyone who has edited an eFoil clip knows the annoying part is not the footage. It is finding something to put behind it that will not get the upload muted. This episode pairs a full length sunset session with an original track, and the track is one you are allowed to take.

Four versions, free to use

The song is “Benefits with Friends” by Specific Ambiguity, and this is the live recording made in 1993 at one of the band’s first larger shows at the Uptown in Minneapolis. It, plus three other versions of the same song, are available to download and use for free in your own eFoil content. If the live take is too raw for what you are cutting, one of the others will fit, which is the point of releasing several.

What the song is about

It is worth knowing what you are putting under your footage. The title is a deliberate inversion of the familiar phrase: friendship first, built on trust and honesty, rather than the throwaway sitcom version. Written in 1993 and a regular on campus and club setlists, the song keeps circling one question, which is why closeness so often arrives with an unspoken claim of ownership attached, and whether being connected to someone has to cost you being yourself. The recording is not a polished studio take and it is better for it, crowd included.

The ride under it

The footage is a sunset session filmed the same evening as the Obligations Are Chains ride, on a LiftX with a Pro5 mast, a 160 Camber Pro up front and a 36 Glide behind. That is a stable, easy going combination with plenty of control left in it for carving, which is why it suits a long evening ride rather than a speed run.
