The hardest thing about teaching someone to eFoil is that once they are out on the water you cannot talk to them. You wave, they cannot hear you, and they work out the next thing by trial and error while you watch from the shore. This first lesson solves that problem in the most direct way available.
Coaching that arrives while you are riding
Run in collaboration with ZenWatersports.com, the session puts a two-way radio inside both helmets. Beth instructs from her side, Jenna hears it in real time, and corrections land in the moment they are needed rather than at the end of a run. If you are booking a first lesson anywhere, this is a feature worth asking about. The difference between being told what to do while you are doing it and being told afterwards is most of the learning curve.
The gear under a first-time rider
She is riding a Lift4 with 170 Camber Pro wings. That is a lot of wing area, and for a beginner that is exactly right: a bigger front wing generates lift at lower speed, which means you can come up onto the foil without needing much throttle and without the board feeling twitchy underneath you. Jenna is up and making real progress within about ten minutes of starting.
What a ten minute learning curve actually looks like
Jenna is Stephan’s big sister and has not done this before. The episode is short and it is worth watching for one reason: it shows the whole arc of a first session compressed, from getting on the board to flying above the water. If you have been putting off trying because you assume it takes a season to get anywhere, this is a useful counterweight.
