An eFoil already looks improbable from a distance. Take the mast out of the picture and it stops looking like a board on a hydrofoil at all, and starts looking like a person hovering two feet above the lake. That is the whole idea behind the invisible mast.

A twenty dollar illusion

The best part of this one is the cost. The materials to pull off the levitation effect come to about twenty dollars, so this is not a visual effects project or an expensive prop, it is something built in a workshop from cheap stock. The clip here is the build in progress, cutting a sheet down to size and peeling the protective plastic film off the finished piece.

A word about the blade

There is a safety aside worth repeating while cutting anything on a saw: keep your hand off the far side of the material. The example given is an experienced woodworker who reached round the back of a piece of lumber to check whether the blade had cut all the way through, and found out that it had. Experience is not protection here, complacency is the risk.

The reveal

The finished effect is shown here, but the method is not. The full explanation of how to build and use the invisible mast is saved for the season finale, so if you want to make one yourself, that is the episode to wait for.
