Most eFoil footage is shot one way, and it shows. A single camera angle for three minutes turns a session into a loop. This one was filmed two ways at once, close and wide, and cut against an original track that you are free to take and use yourself.
The close angle: an Insta360 X5 on a hip mount
The hip mount is the one worth paying attention to. A helmet or a head mount gives you roughly what your eyes gave you, and a mast mount gives you the board. A hip mount sits between the two, which is why the footage reads as being up on the foil rather than as watching someone who is. You get the board, the water and the rider in the same frame without holding anything.
The wide angle: an Antigravity A1 drone
The aerials are the other half. Flyovers give you the thing a rider never sees from the board, which is the shape of the line you just drew across the water. Cut against the close footage they do the work of showing scale, because on its own a hip mounted shot has nothing in it to tell you how fast you are going or how far out you are.
The track, and you can use it
The song is “You are not a Monster“, written and composed by Stephan and recorded by Raster Ops. It comes from Glass in the Sand, the first book in the Conversations with my Younger Self series. It is offered free for use in eFoil content, which is the same standing offer that applies to the rest of the music on this channel.
It is about facing the version of yourself you have judged most harshly and choosing compassion over shame rather than treating those parts of yourself as something monstrous. The sea glass image behind the album is the reason it fits a water video at all: sharp things get worn smooth by water, sand and time, given enough of all three.
The session
Golden hour, calm water and a long smooth glide on the LiftX. One rider, one board, and conditions that did most of the work.
