Getting up on the LiftX: what the first launch feels like

A common worry about the LiftX is that a board built for surfing must be harder to get going than a standard eFoil. This clip is a short answer to that. It is forty seconds of a launch, filmed from the board, with no editing tricks hiding the awkward part.

The setup in the clip

This is a LiftX 4’8″ running the folding prop, with a Havoc 148 front wing and a 26 Flow rear. That is a surf oriented package rather than a cruising one, and the folding prop is the part that defines it. Getting up on it works the way it does on any other eFoil: squeeze in, get to your knees, stand when the board settles, and let the wing take the weight.

The part that is different

Everything ordinary about this board stops the moment you release the trigger. With the folding prop, the drag that would normally stop you dead simply is not there, so the board keeps gliding and can be surfed and pumped unpowered in a way a fixed prop setup cannot manage. That is the whole point of the platform, and it is what the rest of the LiftX episodes on this site spend their time on.

Who this is for

If you are weighing up a LiftX against a Lift5 and the sticking point is whether it will be a handful to ride day to day, take this as a small piece of evidence that it launches normally. The learning curve lives elsewhere, in what you do after the trigger comes off, not in standing up.
