Honest eFoil gear reviews and what a season of them looks like

Most eFoil coverage online is written by people who sell the gear or love the brand. That leaves anyone about to spend serious money reading around the edges of a review to work out what was left out. This episode opens a season by saying exactly what it plans to cover, and then spends its best few minutes on why the reviews will be blunt.

What the season is set up to cover

Four things are named. Carving technique, taught properly rather than as a montage. The Kaper call self-returning eFoil technique, in an improved form that reportedly now works even on long mast boards, which had been assumed impossible. Weather conditions, which is a genuinely good eFoil topic because the boards work in almost anything and most riders never find that out. And more wing reviews, on the honest basis that the wing episodes are moderately popular rather than a runaway hit.

Riding last year’s gear on purpose

The verdict on Lift’s releases that year is not flattering. Rather than new boards or gear at critical mass, what arrived was a training raft that fits most of the boards, and a stiffer mast. The assessment given here is that nothing in the range was compelling enough to buy, so the plan was simply to keep riding the previous season’s setup hard. That is worth noting for anyone weighing an upgrade cycle: a year where nothing is worth replacing is a legitimate outcome, and reviewers who never say so are not much use to you.

The head to head challenge

The bigger idea floated is an open challenge to eFoil manufacturers: send the fastest, lightest, most agile boards you make and let them be raced against each other in the same conditions. Nobody hands over demo boards to a channel nobody watches, which is why the ask is framed around subscriptions and comments rather than goodwill. It is the only realistic way an independent head to head between platforms ever gets made.

On saying when gear breaks

The section that matters most is about pushback. Some viewers say that pointing out failures and faults will put newcomers off the sport. The response is unambiguous: honest reviews are why people watch, riders are tired of hearing only fanboys, and asking a reviewer to hide problems is asking them to lie to protect sales. If you are researching a first eFoil, that stance is the reason a review is worth reading at all. The episode closes with a previously unaired piece cut to Burn the Witch by Radiohead, found on a hard drive after being forgotten at the end of the previous season.
