Most 360 footage of eFoiling looks wrong for a reason that has nothing to do with resolution. Without any way to cut the light, the shutter runs too fast, every frame is frozen sharp, and a smooth carve ends up looking like a burst of stills. This session is set to music with no commentary, but the note attached to it is about exactly that problem.
What ND settings actually fix
The footage here was shot on the Insta360 X4 in 8K using its ND settings, which is what makes realistic shutter speed and aperture possible on a 360 camera. Get those back and you get motion blur back, and motion blur is most of what separates footage that reads as film from footage that reads as a security camera. Stephan describes the switch from film to digital as leaving very little he misses, now that these settings exist.
The rigs on the water
Two riders, two very different setups. The main line is a Lift4 Pro on a 32 inch mast with a 100 Surf V2 up front and a 32 Glide behind it, a cruising configuration rather than a top speed one. Alongside it, neighbour Leo rides a Lift3 with an HA90 and a 38 Surf. Leo is in his second summer on the board, and the session is built around showing how far that progression has come.

There is no voiceover on this one. It runs as a music piece, set to We’re in this Together Now by Nine Inch Nails, so what you are judging is the riding and the camera work. If you are trying to work out whether a 360 camera can carry a whole eFoil session on its own, this is a useful thing to watch with the sound up and your eye on how the water and the wing behave through each turn.
