Some episodes are thirteen seconds long and still worth posting. This is one of them, filmed at the gate before boarding a flight to Puerto Rico with a Lift X packed away in the hold.

Meeting the people behind the usernames

The trip is a meetup with a group of eFoilers who have never met in person before. That is worth pausing on, because it describes a lot of this sport. Riders are scattered thinly, often one or two to a lake, and the community that forms around them lives in comments, messages and video replies rather than at a local spot. Getting everyone into the same water at the same time is rarer than it should be, and it is usually somebody deciding to organise it that makes it happen.

Why the Lift X, and why waves

The stated goal for the trip is learning to surf waves on the Lift X. For a rider whose home water is a Minnesota lake, that is a genuine change of discipline rather than a holiday with the same board. Flat water riding rewards a completely different set of habits from riding swell, and the only way to find out how much of your skill transfers is to go somewhere with waves and try it. That is what the episodes that follow this one are about.
