Wing advice ages badly. You ride something for a season, it becomes the thing you tell everyone to buy, and then a few nights on a different wing rearranges the whole picture. That is what happened here, and the episode exists specifically to correct a recommendation before more people act on it.
Why the recommendation changed
The previous answer to “what should I get if I want to go faster and surf more” was the 100 Surf V2. Nothing said about that wing is being walked back. The problem is that the 160 Camber Pro had not been ridden properly at the time, so the comparison was never really made. This is an unplanned episode released quickly for one reason: a full review was still weeks away, and people were buying on the old advice in the meantime.
What the 160 Camber Pro does differently
The trade is a clean one, and it is worth understanding before you spend money. The Camber Pro is not as responsive as the 100 Surf V2. What it is instead is smoother, described as the smoothest wing tried so far, and noticeably more stable at high speed when you put it into a deep carve. If your riding is mostly hard banked turns held through the whole arc rather than quick direction changes, that stability is the thing you actually feel. An hour of controlled high load banks is what produced the change of heart.
Drag, rear wing and where the size cap sits
The Camber Pro carries a fair amount more drag than the smaller surf wing, and that is the reason given for not going any larger in the range. Bigger front wings would add drag without adding anything this one does not already do for carving. It was ridden here with a 36 Glide rear on a tall mast, with a plan to try a 32 Glide behind it to claw some of that drag back. That is a sensible experiment if you are setting up the same wing: the rear wing is the cheapest lever you have for tuning drag and pitch feel without changing the front.
How much weight to put on this
Be clear about what this episode is. It is a fourth session impression, made under time pressure, not a finished review. A longer review of the wing was already in production when this went out. Treat it as a reason to consider the 160 Camber Pro before committing to the 100 Surf V2, and as a useful description of how the two wings differ in feel, rather than as the last word on either.
